Ingredients

- 1 cup whole milk
- 0 teaspoon saffron threads
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 0 cup granulated sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 0 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 0 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 0 cup raisins
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon water
Instructions
- Warm the milk slightly and stir in the saffron threads. Let steep for 10 minutes.
- In a bowl, combine saffron milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit until foamy, about 5 to 10 minutes.
- Add flour, salt, cardamom, butter, and eggs to the mixture. Mix and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
- Divide dough into 12 pieces. Roll into ropes and shape into S-forms. Place a raisin in each curl.
- Transfer to baking sheet, cover, and let rise again for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush buns with egg wash.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes until golden and puffed.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- Ensure the milk is not too hot when adding saffron to prevent scalding.
- Feel free to experiment with adding nuts or other dried fruits.
